Frequently Asked Questions

ISO auditor salaries vary depending on the standard, industry sector, location, and level of experience. In the UK, an internal auditor working in occupational health and safety can typically expect to earn between £30,000 to £50,000 per year.

Those who progress to lead auditor roles or take on freelance work may earn more, with daily contract rates ranging from £300 to £600. Holding a recognised certification such as a CQI and IRCA internal or lead auditor certified qualifications can help increase your earning potential.

The length of the course depends on the level of qualification. SEQM Training’s internal auditor course is a two-day programme that can be delivered remotely or in-house at your premises.

If you are looking to progress to lead auditor level, the lead auditor course typically runs  over five days. SEQM’s unique flexible blended format is 27 hours self-paced plus 2 days practical workshop meaning you only need to commit 2 days on fixed dates for the workshop, the rest of the course can be done whenever you wish.

Both courses include practical exercises, group activities, and assessment to ensure you develop the skills needed to conduct effective audits and become an excellent auditor.

To become an ISO internal auditor, you need to complete an accredited training course that covers the relevant ISO standard and auditing techniques based on ISO 19011.

For occupational health and safety, this means completing an ISO 45001 internal auditor training course that teaches you how to plan, conduct, and report on OHSMS audits.

Although a foundational knowledge of the standard is required prior to attending, no prior auditing experience is needed, but a background in health and safety is helpful. After completing the course, you are qualified to begin conducting internal audits within your organisation.

If you want to certify your organisation’s occupational health and safety management system, you will need to implement ISO 45001, conduct internal audits, and then engage an accredited certification body to carry out an external assessment.

If you are looking to become a certified auditor personally, you should complete a CQI and IRCA certified training course, pass the assessment and exam, and then gain practical audit experience. SEQM Training offers both internal auditor and lead auditor courses to help you achieve your goals.
